All The Different Types of Blazers Plus Our Favorites

all the different types of blazers | oh darling blog

We hope you all had a great weekend, ours was a pretty relaxed one filled with working on the blog and just laying around. Last Thursday we actually got to meet up with some of our favorite blogger babes and meet some new ones, which was so much fun! Definitely the highlight of our week.

Typically a blazer was considered to be a menswear item worn for business, but thanks to designers they have taken a formal menswear item and turned it into a piece that every women should have in their closet. A blazer is not just for business any more, they are true style statements! They come in so many styles; structured, unstructured, different lengths, and materials. Blazers can be worn over dresses, with shorts, or even your with your favorite graphic tee. Enough of the history and let’s get to all the different types of blazers we’re loving at the moment plus some of our favorites. We have quite a few so put on your loungewear and get comfortable!!

Blazer styles:

  • Velvet blazers
  • Fitted blazer
  • Formal blazer / Classic blazer
  • Casual blazer / Boyfriend blazer
  • Long blazer

Velvet blazers

When it comes to velvet blazers and any blazer at all the options are endless for what to wear. We love a good tee and jeans paired with a velvet blazer, but we also really love a button down top paired with a pleated midi skirt and a velvet blazer. Two whole different looks that you can easily transform using just one piece. Velvet particularly, we believe the more bold the better! And if you’re all about being bold see this post HERE.

Fitted blazer

A fitted blazer is great for making your ripped jeans look less casual and more dressed up. It also looks great with a pair of boyfriend jeans, since the blazer is more fitted and the jeans are more loose!

Formal Blazer / Classic Blazer

Don’t be afraid of those more formal / classic looking blazers!! They’re not only classic (hence the name) that will stand up year after year, but they are also great for adding the perfect touch to a more feminine outfit. Pair a navy blue formal blazer with some navy slim crop pants, a white tee, and white Adidas Stan Smith OR even style a black classic blazer with a denim shirt, white ripped jeans, and nude heels. You’ve automatically turned two basic looks into a flattering, on trend look!

Casual blazers / Boyfriend blazers

A casual blazer is a great way to make your sneakers, jeans, and tee instantly look more dressed up while still being casual. The boyfriend blazer I’m wearing is particularly great because of the unstructured fit and the soft draping fabric. Layering pieces like a hoodie under your blazer for a casual day of running errands is always a great option.

Long blazer

Long blazers are just a little something different than your average blazer.. that’s just about it though! Some great options to pair with a long blazer are jeans and tee, a skirt and long sleeve, or even a midi slip dress.
