It may be cold here, but that’s not stopping us from busting out one of the most versatile pieces in our wardrobe, a slip dress. Why it took both of us so long to purchase one, that’s a good question. We have quickly become obsessed and you are going to be too. Because of how versatile they are, we’re going to be sharing all the different ways to wear a slip dress.
How To Wear A Slip Dress 4 Ways
Versatile is not the only reason why you should think about adding a slip dress into your closet. You can find the perfect one that’s going to be great quality and inexpensive. A double YES, PLEASE! Need some more convincing? Whether your style is casual, dressed up, edgy, classic, or chic, you can wear a slip dress. Take your favorite piece(s) from your closet and play around with creating all different outfits with your dress.
Leather jacket and slip dress:
One of my go-to pieces in my closet is my leather jacket. A leather jacket is a true wardrobe staple that can be worn year after year. It is perfect to add that extra layer during colder temps, plus it adds a little bit of an edge to a feminine piece; such as a slip dress. My slip dress is no longer available but is from Verge Girl.
Mock neck and slip dress
When deciding what to pair underneath your slip dress, look for a top that has a higher neckline. Especially since my dress has a deep v, a high neckline will help piece the outfit together.
Find a long sleeve that is going be on the form-fitting so there isn’t any added fabric underneath. Free People has a layering shop of tees, shirts, & tops that would pair perfectly under any slip dress.
Turtleneck and slip dress
A great way to change up a look is to style your slip dress with a turtleneck sweater. I chose a thicker, loose-fitting sweater in the same color as my dress. I simply place a belt around my waist and bloused the sweater to give my outfit and my waist some definition. When it comes to choosing shoes for my looks I always like adding a twist – such as my studded combat boots.

A graphic tee and slip dress
Graphic tees are magic because they can be styled with just about anything. I’m obsessed with the edgy vibes of this combo. If you’re looking for some good graphic tees, Brandy Melville is my go-to. They hold up and are so comfortable.
More slip dress outfit ideas:
A long cardigan that’s longer or a couple inches shorter than your dress
Plain white tee or striped long sleeve
Flannel or denim jacket tied around your waist
Lace top underneath
Belt around your waist
Graphic tee or plain tee, knotted at the front and worn over your slip dress
Blazer or any type of coat: Try throwing over your shoulders for a more sophisticated look
Play around with your shoes: sneakers, heels, booties, over the knee boots, mules
When looking for a slip dress keep in mind your height. If you are wanting a long slip dress and you are not that tall, find one with a slit on the side. This is going to accentuate your legs, give a more sexy look (but not too sexy), and not drag you down. Need some help finding or styling a slip dress? Wow! So much great Inspo! Love the sweater layered!
I absolutely love the way you styled it with the turtleneck sweater and boots. Its such an edgy chic vibe which is one of my favorites. And with the leather jacket is such a classic look. I for sure need to get a slip dress and those Sam Edelman boots I have been wanting for forever!! I’m kicking myself for not getting them on Black Friday/Cyber Monday so now I’m just patiently waiting for a killer sale.
