The Biggest Blogging Mistake We’ve Made

It’s been a while since we’ve done some real talk on here and opened up about blogging. We have been blogging for over two years now (still can’t believe that). Truthfully, it’s been far from easy for us, but we wouldn’t want to have it any other way.

Just like the title says, we’re going to be opening up about the biggest blogging mistake we’ve made. Most likely, it’s one that many bloggers have made too. Are you ready to hear all about our biggest mistake, how we learned from it, and how it led us to invest in our business to help us grow?

It’s important to us to be as open and honest as we can to our readers and followers, hence why we’re sharing this all with you. Our life is in no way perfect. It may seem that way, but it’s furthest from the truth. We struggle, we have bad days, we make mistakes, and most days we’re wearing workout clothes and don’t have our hair done.

The Biggest Blogging Mistake We’ve Made

All that being said, here is our biggest blogging mistake we’ve made… constantly buying clothes when we first started blogging. You’re probably like what? That’s your biggest mistake! We get it but just keep on reading to understand what we really mean.

It is so easy to feel like you need a new outfit for every single picture you post. You scroll through Instagram and you see your favorite bloggers with a different look each day + always sharing new arrivals. On top of that, we didn’t know much we first started blogging. We knew the basics, but other than that it was a lot of trial and error to find out what worked and didn’t work.

In the beginning, we bought and bought and then we bought some more clothes. Isn’t that what every blogger does? Maybe they do, but we quickly learned that was not for us. It got to the point where we were buying just to post a picture in and then we would never wear that item again. Plus, let’s be honest, it got expensive real quick. So what exactly did we do? Well, we dialed it back a lot and started shopping our own closets to recreate looks. And guess what, no one even noticed! Here are some tips for shopping your closet:

  • Use blogs, Instagram, and Pinterest to give you inspiration
  • Don’t be afraid to mix it up such as style a tee over a dress
  • Use accessories to change up a look

Right or wrong we have done things differently than most when it comes to blogging. Shortly after we started blogging, we hired Influencer SEO to help us with our SEO and blog posts. And just recently, we hired Chloe at Hart Media to help us land collaborations. Since working with Chloe, it’s opened up many opportunities for us and allowed us to build relationships with brands that we wouldn’t have made on our own. Along with that, we’ve been able to be gifted a good amount of clothes, which in return has made us not buy as much.

Although both of these services are a big investment, we are in the mindset that we are investing in us and our business.

We are not saying that this is how you will “make it” in the blogging world… not at all. In fact, even with these services, our growth has been very slow. Plus, so many people are hustling and succeeding and doing it all on their own. That is the beauty of everything! As we move through life, we find what works best, what we can do on our own, and what we may need help with. No one’s path is the same and each person will chase this dream differently.

So, that was our biggest blogging mistake.

It may seem simple or not that big, but it really taught us a lot. It allowed us to learn, to shift our priorities to investing in our business instead of thinking we need to buy all the clothes, and in the long run, we know it’s saved us a lot of money.

We are all going to face success in life, but it’s going to look different for every one of us. Trust that you are supposed to be right where you are because the timing works differently for every single person. Trust that amazing things are coming your way because they are! Let’s celebrate each person’s win because if you feel a pull or calling to do whatever it may be, then there is space for you.

xx
