Though we love dresses, you usually wouldn’t be finding us wearing one. We love them online and on everyone else, but then we get one and it ends up just sitting in our closet. Dresses are SOOO cute in the winter time with all that layering and texture. Can you tell that we’re over here daydreaming right now thinking about all the looks we could create?

Just like we encourage all of you to step out of your comfort zone and to not be afraid to try new trends that you may not always be gravitating towards, that’s just what we’re going to be doing this Fall with dresses. We are HEAD OVER HEELS for all the Fall clothing this year and that includes all the boots. Just because you may be wearing something that’s not in your comfort zone doesn’t mean you can’t pair it with something that IS in your comfort zone. An easy way to do that is to style your outfits with some boots.

How We’re Styling Our Dresses For Fall

Layering Sweaters Underneath

There are so many cute jumper style dresses out this season and we want them all. The perfect way to wear them throughout the chillier Fall temps is to layer a sweater underneath. Layering a chunky knit or a thinner sweater adds a lot of texture and dimension to a cute pinafore style dress.

Long sleeves

There are so many great striped long sleeve tops out and they would make the perfect layering piece for a corduroy dress. If you are like us we love to mix prints and a striped top would look amazing under a plaid dress. Not sure how to mix prints? Check out our How To Mix Patterns In Your Outfit post. For a simpler and chic look, layer a plain long sleeve tee under a slip dress.

Over The Knee Boots

Over the knee boots are perfect for the fall and winter months. Instead of wearing tights you can style your dresses with a great pair of over the knee boots. The iconic Stuart Weitzman boots are a favorite of ours but if you are not willing to pay the price, there are so many dupes out there in every price range. Sam Edelman makes a great over the knee boot dupe.

Booties

Booties are a lower cut boot that pairs perfectly with just about anything. We recently discovered Naked Boot and Shoe and to say we are obsessed is an understatement. The black Adrienne Bootie is a classic heel bootie and my silver Emily Bootie is no longer available but IS available in black.

Sweater or Cardigan

You can never go wrong with layering a sweater or cardigan over your dress. When choosing a sweater, look for one that’s either going to be chunky, oversized, cropped or all of the above. You want to make sure that the sweater hits at the right spot as well since you are layering it over a dress.

If you’re going for a cardigan, look for one that is slightly shorter than the length of your dress or even one that is longer than your dress.

Oversized Jacket

Oversized jackets add an on-trend look that just about everyone is going to love. Look for a longer line/boyfriend cut to style over a more structured dress.

Sweater Coat

A sweater coat is a thicker more structured cardigan. We did a whole blog post on How To Wear A Sweater Coat on the blog. A sweater coat is a perfect addition to layer over your dress + add a more chic look.

Teddy Bear Coat

Teddy Bear Coats have been big for a couple of seasons. They are warm, cozy, and oh so good. When choosing to style a teddy bear coat, choose a simple more fitted dress underneath since they are bulkier.

Blazers

It’s no secret that we are blazer obsessed. We love to wear blazers no matter what season it is. Check out our post on All The Different Types of Blazers. To style a blazer over a dress, the proportion is KEY! So look for a longer line style such as a boyfriend blazer or a long blazer. Don’t be afraid to go for a plaid, stripe, or even a fun print. Don’t forget all about mix match fashion, babes!
