3 Hairstyles For Short Hair

To be completely honest, we have no clue what we’re doing when it comes to styling our own hair. As in, no one’s going to be asking us for hair tips any time soon. And you’re probably thinking then why in the world are you doing a blog post on hairstyles? Good question, but the answer is these hairstyles are so simple + easy that even we can do them.

3 Hairstyles For Short Hair

I recently got my hair cut super short (at least for me) and ended up hating it. The biggest struggle when it comes to styling my short hair is making it NOT look super flipped out because that’s what my hair naturally does. But that’s where these hairstyles come into play. While I’m waiting for my hair to grow back to my desired length, these hairstyles will be on major repeat.

You can do any of these hairstyles whether you have a middle part, side part, straight hair, curly hair, wavy hair, or any hair length.

Half Up Half Down

Products Needed (all optional):
  • Clear Elastics: helps to keep your hair in place all day.
  • Brush/Comb
  • Curling iron and/or straightener: curl or straighten the half of your hair that’s down.
  • Texture Spray: finish with adding some texture and volume to the half down part (we love Kristin Ess’ Texture Spray).
  • Hairspray: for any flyaways.
  • Scarf Ponytail Holder
How To Do It:

Choose the desired amount of hair to create a half part. It’s a personal preference of how much hair you want to put up, but a good rule of thumb is to start parting your hair just above your ears or at your temple. From there, use a clear elastic and/or scrunchie to tie your hair to create that half up look.

  • I like the look of a longer scrunchie with this style because it flows with the ponytail.
  • If you don’t want a ponytail, create a bun.
  • To change up the look of your scarf ponytail holder tie it into a bow.

Products Needed (all optional):
  • Ponytail: to put your hair in a ponytail before adding your scrunchie.
  • Brush
  • Curling iron and/or straightener: If you have side bangs, curl/straighten them (like I did) to frame your face.
  • Hairspray: for any fly aways or to create a more slicked back look with your hair.
  • Bow Scrunchie
How To Do It:

Take all of your hair and push behind your hairs. You can either slick back your hair or keep it looser (your preference), then take your ponytail and/or scrunchie to tie into a low pony.

  • Switch up the placement of your ponytail: low, in the middle of the head, or a high pony.

Low Bun

Products Needed (all optional):
  • Ponytail: If you want to put your hair in a bun before adding your scrunchie.
  • Brush
  • Curling iron and/or straightener: If you have side bangs, curl/straighten them (like I did) to frame your face.
  • Hairspray: If you have any fly aways or want to create a more slicked back look.
  • Knotted Scrunchie
How To Do It:

Same steps apply as creating a low pony, except you’re creating a bun. Take all of your hair and push behind your ears. You can either slick back your hair or keep it looser (your preference), then take your ponytail and/or scrunchie to tie into a low bun.

  • Switch up the placement of your bun: low, in the middle of the head, or a high bun.
  • The messier the bun the better!
  • P.S. It looks like my hair is in a pony, but I promise there’s a tiny bun there.
