How To Style A Sweater Dress

Boots

Over the knee/Thigh High: We like styling our dresses in the Fall/Winter time with over the knee/thigh high boots. These can take place of your tights to create a chicer and more put together look + keep your legs a bit warmer.

Ankle Boots: Most of us have a pair of ankle boots in our closet and it’s the perfect time to bust those babies out. With ankle boots, there are all different styles/patterns, which is great for adding texture or mix matching prints into your look.

In case you don’t have a pair of ankle boots, a good option is leather boots. These will stay in style for years to come and pair with just about any outfit.

Knee High Boots: Knee high boots are that in between of your OTK and ankle boots, and usually come up below the knee. This type of boots is especially great for any of you are who are shorter.

Suede boots: Suede just adds a little bit of warmth to any fall and winter look. These boots can be found in just about every style and color.

Sneakers

If you’re a more casual girl like us or want to dress down your sweater dress, then sneakers are the way to go!

Dress length above the knee or longer

You’re going to find that most sweater dresses are just above the knee or longer. Otherwise, they would just be sweaters πŸ˜‰

  • If your sweater dress is above the knee, pair some OTK boots, booties, heels, or sneakers.
  • For a longer length sweater dress choose a pair of heels for that long lean line.

Paired With Outerwear

Outerwear is going to keep you warm and help with creating a more put together look when you wear a sweater dress. Whether that’s a blazer, denim jacket, leather coat, trench coat, or fur coat. Make sure your outerwear stops just above your waist or goes past your bottom… this is going to help with not looking frumpy.

Belted at waist

If your sweater dress is oversized, adding a belt at the waist is going to help define your waist. You can also style your bodycon dress with a leather belt.

Scarf

Add a scarf for some added color and texture. If you are wearing a more form-fitting dress, like my knit sweater dress, an oversized and chunky scarf would look amazing.

Sheer/Printed Tights

Adding tights is perfect for the working girl or for those chillier winter days. Neutral tights are always a safe option – skin colored or a sheer black. You can also have a little bit of fun and go for a printed tight like polka dots, stripes, a knit, or plaid.

Tie a shirt at the waist

To define the waist and create a casual look, tie a button-down flannel or denim shirt around your sweater dress, then pair with some sneakers or combat boots.

Layer

Add a chambray shirt or a gingham button-down underneath your sweater dress. Let the collar and sleeves peek out. This option is perfect for a business look!

Skinny Jeans

Style your fitted sweater dress with a pair of dark skinny jeans. In case your sweater dress is more on the oversized/bulky side choose heels or heeled boots to create a lean look. This option is also great for any of you who are taller!

Leggings

A pair of faux leather leggings and a black sweater dress is edgy and chic. Want to create a warm and cozy look? Style your turtleneck sweater dress paired with knit leggings.
