Raise your hand if you open up your closet that is overflowing with clothes, look into it, and say, “I have nothing to wear!” That is us most days!
Creating A Versatile Closet
It is to everyone’s benefit to have versatile pieces in your closet, pieces that you allow you to build onto your wardrobe. You want items that can be mixed and matched, worn from season to season, and styled differently. That doesn’t mean that you can’t pick up your favorite trend of the season because gosh knows we love to do that, but we try to mix that piece with staple items in our closet!
Having versatile pieces in your closet will allow you to create more looks without breaking the bank. Which is a win-win! Another great benefit is you are able to keep your closet more organized and decluttered! Which is exactly what we like – We can not stand disorganization and messes.
Many people create a capsule wardrobe where they have a wardrobe made up of only pieces they LOVE to wear. Your closet has quality staple items that you shop for once a season. Usually there is about 35-40 pieces that you love to wear anytime, those items are mixed and matched for the season. People who follow the capsule wardrobe trend, don’t shop for 3 months – they save money, time in their closet, and love the minimalistic approach. We have to admit we do not follow that trend at all. In fact we probably should because there is SO much in our closets that we do not wear!!
One Skirt Two Ways
Lets talk midi skirts.. A midi skirt (if you don’t know) is a skirt that hits at your mid calf, they are a versatile piece that can be styled so many different ways! A pencil skirt that hits at mid calf is another great option. A pencil skirt looks great with heels and really is not just for the office!! We love to style a pencil skirt with a graphic tee that you tie a knot in the front or even a tank top.
This season we are loving the pleated style midi skirts that are flowy, and come in so many different fabric combos like metallic and velvet.
Look 1 –
Since our personal style is more on the casual side we paired a white fuzzy turtleneck sweater, tennis shoes, with a velvet midi skirt. This look would be perfect for lunch with friends 🙂
Although, you could EASILY dress it up with a pair of ankle boots or heels. In fact, if you work in an office, you could throw on a black blazer and heels and your ready to take on the corporate world!
Look 2 –
Keeping true to who we are, we still kept this second look casual by styling a sweatshirt, leather jacket, and leopard heels. We still feel comfortable, chic, and stylish.
Change up this look a little with a white tee, a biker jacket, and boots and you have the perfect balance between edgey and feminine.
Shop My Look
Are you wondering where everything I am wearing is from? Well let’s talk about it. My midi skirt is from Lulus you can shop my exact skirt HERE. We have linked other pleated midi-skirts we are loving in the slider above as well.
If you are not into midi-skirts, but love the styling tips that we did, just swap out the skirt with a pair of boyfriend jeans or girlfriend jeans and you are good to go!
LOVE these looks. I live in the camp of “just throw on a leather jacket”. It makes that sweet velvet skirt look so chic and edgy!
