If you told us we were going to write a blog post about finding a pair of sunglasses for any outfit, we wouldn’t believe you! On Instagram stories, we mentioned how we always laugh when people tell us they love our sunglasses because we have each worn the SAME pair since we started blogging over a year ago, YEP! That being said, we have jumped onto the sunglass train. so here we go…
Sunglasses are just as important in an outfit as everything else, even though they are just an accessory. Don’t be afraid to try out a trend that you think you can’t pull off or won’t look good in. There’s a reason why we’ve had just one pair of sunglasses this whole time; it’s what we think looks best/what we can pull off. BUT, we decided to just go for it and try out the sunglass trend… thanks Forever 21 for being affordable and letting us hit the jackpot! Anyways, let’s get to sharing the process of how we choose our sunglasses for an outfit.
Our Favorite Sunglass Styles
As we said earlier we have stuck with the same sunglasses since we started our blog. Katie has always worn the classic Ray-Ban classic aviator sunglasses and Lydia has always worn Ray-Ban round sunglasses. We have stuck with these styles because they are classic, look good with any outfit, fit our casual style, & our face shape.
When we decided to write this post we headed to Forever 21 since they always have on-trend items at affordable prices. We seriously had so much fun (with a lot of laughs) trying on different styles and seeing what looked good on us.
Cat Eye Sunglasses
Cat eye sunglasses are more of a retro look. Play with the color of the frame and the lenses to match your outfit. Choose a 90’s vibe with a dark frame or go for more of a 50’s feel with light colors.
Oval Sunglasses
Oval sunglasses can be tricky and look to small like you’re Ben Franklin lol. So stick with a dark lense to give off that intentional futuristic sleek look.
Round sunglasses
Round Sunglasses give off that boho vibe! Style it with wedges or a chunky heel along with a flowy outfit to create a great modern twist to the 70’s.
Metal Octagon Sunglasses
Thin wire-framed sunglasses are HOTTT. You can choose the round shape that John Lennon made popular or go for a new twist and choose an octagon shape.
Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses
A universally flattering style. Choose to update this style of sunglasses by choosing a colored lens and go for a bigger frame to create that of the moment look!
White Frame Sunglasses
This thick frame is a new vintage-inspired twist. Choose a colored frame in white, nude, or clear for a must-have sunnies for 2018.
Picking The Right Sunglasses For Your Outfit
When we went about shooting these looks, we laid out all our new sunglass styles and picked out the type of sunglasses that went best with our looks. There is a ton of styles to choose from so don’t be afraid, have some fun, and grab a pair of sunglasses to complete your look.

Choose the right color to go with your outfit:
If you have a lot of brightly colored clothing, then go for a more subtle color when it comes to your sunglasses. And then, of course, vice versa! Figure out what you want the statement piece to be and go from there.
-
Choosing a frame:
A frame can really change the look you are going for. Figure out what you are wanting to choose… wire framed, thick, half framed glasses, the options are endless.
-
Make sure they are UV ray protected:
Sunglasses not only help filter out the light but also protect your eyes from getting damaged. Choosing sunglasses that have UV protection is very important in protecting your eyes from long-term damage.
-
Look at the price point:
Sunglasses can range in prices, that’s for sure! In many cases, you get what you pay for when it comes to your shades. BUT, that doesn’t mean you have to spend hundreds of dollars to get a good quality pair of glasses! EyeBuyDirect, Warby Parker, MVMT, Nordstrom, and Nordstrom Rack are a few places that have great glasses, at a great price.
Let us know if you’re all about changing up your sunglasses depending on what you wear or not! Oh, and YES we wear sunglasses in every photo of ours. We forgot to put them on once and literally our eyes were closed in just about every photo, oops!
Love your choices of sunglasses! Sunnies are a staple for every outfit, especially during the summer. Thanks for sharing! xx Jenifer
