It’s Wednesday, which means we are half way through another week!! Wooh! As you are well aware we do not usually wear dresses because let’s face it, when have you seen us wear one? We really are more of the jeans with tees or even better, loungewear kind of girls! That being said, sometimes occasions come up where you need to wear a dress. During those occasions and really during the fall / winter, our go to dress is a sweater dress.
This tie-cuff sweater dress has got to be one of our favorites. A little known fact is that we’re allergic to wool. So annoying! We love Free People and Madewell sweaters, but 90% of them end up having wool in them. We’re not kidding when we say it feels like someone is sticking needles into our skin, haha! So when it comes to picking out the two we tend to gravitate towards knit sweaters and knit sweater dresses.
Sweater Dress Styling Tips
Layering with A Scarf and Beanie
I seem to always be cold so layering with a chunky scarf and a beanie for the fall / winter time is my go-to. Forever21 has a ton of scarves, that are seriously so warm and really inexpensive! For beanies, Nordstrom always has a great selection ranging in price. I’m wearing this Topshop pompom beanie and it’s by far one of the warmest beanies I’ve worn!! Not to mention, it comes in ton of fun colors.
Belt It
Does this outfit remind you of a gogo girl, haha? I am kind of loving it, especially paired with the white booties! The turtleneck sweater dress I’m wearing is obviously more form fitting, but depending on the style they can make you feel bulky. If the style allows put a thin or thicker belt around the smallest part of your waist to give the dress structure and to define your waist.
Wearing Alone
If you want to show off the detail on your sweater dress then wear it alone! I love this dress for the ruffled details, mock turtleneck, and olive color. Okay, how about I just say I love everything about it!! If you have any off the shoulder sweater dresses (been eyeing this gray sweater dress) then this tip is great for ya! And since it’s freezing here, I would just throw on a leather or suede jacket over my shoulders, maybe even a scarf and beanie 😉
Throw On Your Suede Jacket
Are you surprised we’re telling you to throw on a suede jacket with your sweater dress, probably not! Suede jackets go with just about anything during the fall / winter and we love it! They keep you warm and add the perfect touch, especially if you’re going for a more edgier look. If you are looking to spend a little more money BLANKNYC has some of the best suede jackets. Throw On A Leather Jacket
Can we just copy what we said about suede jackets and paste it here or does that make us sound super lazy? Haha! There’s not much of a difference between the two besides the fabric. Oh, and of course the fact that we adore both for the cold weather!
Wear With A Blazer
This is the year for blazers and we’re totally not complaining! They are so versatile that we did a whole post about them HERE. The blazer that I am wearing has got to be one of my favorites.. what can get better than plaid and velvet combined?

A lot of people are scared of leather leggings, but we love the look of SPANX leather leggings. They are just the right pair that adds a chic look to your sweater dress. Plus, perfect for those cooler temps!

Any style of boots would look great: booties, suede boots, OTK, thigh high boots, ankle boots, or even knee high.
Layer A Turtleneck Under
