How To Style Retro-Inspired Striped Sweaters

Happy Monday lovelies, we hope your weekend was a good one! Our weekend was a pretty typical one – which includes going out to dinner and working. We typically cook all our meals at home during the week and we’re actually working on some food posts for you babes! But when the weekend rolls around we typically go out to eat for dinner on both Friday and Saturday and eat whatever strikes our fancy, which usually includes a side of fries, haha!

Our stripe obsession continues and today it’s in the form of these retro inspired sweaters. We are loving so many of the retro prints, colors, and styles that are all the trend right now.

One of the many retro-inspired sweaters I’m loving is this Free people striped sweater. It’s not only the perfect definition of fall, but it’s also so cozy. And there’s just something about red that gets me every time! This striped sweater comes in a multicolor as well, and I’m kinda loving it a bit more. It runs TTS / I am wearing an x-small.

How to style retro-inspired stripes:

A lot of people are scared of stripes, especially horizontal stripes like ours. BUT, not all stripes are created equal. Just like the sweaters we’re wearing, the stripes vary in sizes and break up the pattern which actually makes it easy for anyone to wear!

A great way to wear horizontal stripes is to layer under a utility vest or a denim jacket. In a previous post we mentioned how we think of camo as a neutral, so pair your striped sweater under a camo print bomber jacket like this one, which is under $20 from Forever 21! Don’t be afraid to mix patterns like pairing a mock-neck striped sweater with a ruffle hem polka dot skirt!

My striped sweater is from Free People that I bought at Nordstrom; it comes in two colors and runs TTS / I am wearing a small. Right now it’s actually 25% off!

I love pairing this striped sweater with jeans. You could even dress this up a little and style it with a pair of non-distressed black jeans.

What to wear with striped sweaters: retro-inspired

What to wear with striped sweaters:

This ribbed knit striped sweater has such vibrant colors and is perfect for layering. Pair it with some mom jeans and matching red flats.

We love the idea of adding a western belt to a stripe sweater-knit top.

If you aren’t into wearing an all over stripe sweater go with this long sleeve top from Free People. Just slip on some leather leggings and you’re set!

Put on this striped turtleneck with some trousers and loafer mules for a night out with the gals!

For a casual look, style together with this pullover sweater or this cropped stripe sweater with ripped black jeans and a fiddler cap.

This multi stripe sweater is probably not going to be everyone’s fave, but the colors and fluted sleeves are giving us major heart eyes! Pair it with jeans and white sneakers for another casual look.

I just found this striped off-the-shoulder sweater and fell in love. Add some skinny jeans and a pair of chelsea booties for the perfect fall outfit!

If you are wanting to be a little bold pair your horizontal mock neck sweater with this fun vertical high waisted side stripe skirt or a pair of pinstriped pants.
